Rodfather Bets Top 25 – Week 4

As many noticed, I did not have any week 3 rankings. People asked why is that? Multitude of reasons, but it won’t happen again. Sorry Gents, but now let’s get into it!

  1. Georgia
The Bulldogs had a rough first half. Defense was lazy, offense was off to a slow start, and they weren’t playing with a lot of energy out the gate. The second half was what we were expecting from the defense. It seems like Carson Beck is still getting comfortable, but Georgia will stay at #1 until they lose.
  2. Michigan
Not much to say here. Michigan has played 3 mickey mouse teams. And they rolled in all of them. Jim Harbaugh is back this weekend, which might give this team an extra spark going heading into Big 10 play. Rutgers looks good over the first few weeks, and I don’t expect this to be an easy test. The Wolverines should win and the 2 spot is where they deserve to be.
  3. USC
Caleb Williams is the Heisman front runner, and this defense woke up a few weeks back when they ROLLED Stanford. If Alex Grinch has this defense anywhere respectable, this team is going to be dangerous coming down the stretch in the loaded Pac-12 (RIP).
  4. Washington
This Washington offense is the real deal. Top 5 in the country with all of their WR weapons and Penix leading the way. Penix is my Heisman #2 right behind Caleb Williams. Michigan State is no good, but it was impressive how they made them look like Group of 5 team. The Huskies have an easy stretch (excluding Oregon) until November. That is when we see if they are the real deal.
  5. Ohio State
Ohio State’s defense has been leading the way for the Buckeyes this year. Kyle McCord has looked better the last two weeks, so let’s see if that confidence can carry over this weekend. Big showdown in South Bend this Saturday. A lot of Notre Dame talk, which may be good for the Buckeyes to play loose and come out with a huge road win before going into Big 10 play.
  6. Texas
Is Texas back? We will see. They had a huge win 2 weeks ago in Tuscaloosa and had sloppy game against a gritty Wyoming team (even though they won by 21). Texas will have a target on their back all year long since this is there last year in the Big 12 and they are just, Texas. Don’t be surprised if Baylor keeps this game close tomorrow.
  7. Florida State
Last week was a scare against Boston College. After 2 strong weeks, the Seminoles looked sloppy and not entirely focused last Saturday. Which is why they dropped a few slots. The defense better play better than they did last week if they want to end their 9 year losing streak against the Clemson Tigers.
  8. Notre Dame
This team is rolling and now have a chance to make a statement game. They got past their one real test in NC State and looked phenomenal. Most recently, rolled through Central Michigan and they should have good momentum with the Buckeyes coming to town. If there is any year the Irish beat the Buckeyes, this would be one of their better chances. But we will see come Saturday night.
  9. Penn State
The Nittany Lions have had one of the tougher schedules out of the top schools thus far. Now they have a chance to make a statement with Iowa coming to town. I don’t see a world where the Hawkeyes can come in University Park and steal a win. This defense is for real and the Drew Allar and the running game for the Nittany Lions looks like they can hold their own vs the top dogs in the Big 10.
  10. Utah
The Utes have weathered the storm with Bryson Barnes and Nate Johnson behind center. With Cam Rising coming back soon, this should give the Utes the lift they need going into Pac-12 play. Utah doesn’t lose at home so it will be hard for UCLA to come into town with a freshman QB and steal a conference win. The Utes defense is the real deal and with the combination of Cam Rising, CFP is not out of the picture.
  11. Oregon State
The Beavs are physical football team. Their defense seems to be the anchor and the offense will need to do just enough for them to win. They had a good 3 game stretch to start the season, but playing some lousy offenses. Going into Pullman, this will be their biggest test. Can the defense make enough stops and maybe get a turnover or 2? That’s needed for the to go into Martin stadium and slow down Cam Ward and company. I expect this Pac-2 game to be a good one!
  12. Oregon
The Ducks. The ole Mighty Ducks! Is this Bo Nix’s year? Or will he collapse like usual? The Ducks took care of business out of conference, now it gets interesting. It will be interesting to see how Coach Prime and the Buffs do in their first Pac-12 matchup. It feels like Oregon will be able to put up points this year, but will their defense be able to make consistent stops? First step comes this Saturday and we will get some answers soon.
  13. Oklahoma
Boomer Sooner is off to a helluva start. Smoked some pewee teams like Arkansas State and Tulsa, now we see how they do in Big-12 play. Again, like Texas, they will have a target on their back each game. But this team may be back on the right track after a disastrous 2022 season.
  14. North Carolina
Don’t sleep on these Tar Heels. They have played a tough 3 games to start the year and came out 3-0. This team looks a lot more physical this year and Drake Maye has been off to a really slow start. If he can get it together and start playing up to his standard. They could be in a battle for the ACC with Florida State, Miami, and the others.
  15. Ole Miss
Lane Kiffin has this offense rolling per usual. Jaxon Dart is playing some great ball and it will be interesting to see if he can take this into Alabama and continue his success. Ole Miss haven’t beat Alabama since 2015. Will this be the year they do it again? Idk, but they deserve the spot of Alabama for this week, let’s see if they can keep it.
  16. Alabama
Nick Saban experimented with a Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson against USF. And it was…. ugly. Milroe is their best option, by far. But he was shaky against Texas 2 weeks back. The middle of the field throws were off and it felt like he just was looking to run. Big drop from them for the last 2 weeks and I still expect them to get it together. If they lose to Ole Miss, it will be a long year in Tuscaloosa.
  17. LSU
The Tigers are trending up and doing it quickly. The Florida State outing was ugly, but they looked fantastic @ Mississippi State. They are still a top team in the SEC and they will show it over the year. But they have no room for error if they are looking for a CFP bid this year.
  18. Washington State
The Cougs are off to a hot start. Blowing out two opponents and winning a gritty contest vs Wisconsin. Cam Ward is playing well with the new OC, Ben Arbuckle. Their matchup with the Beavers will be an interesting one and will be fascinating to see if they can run the same gameplan as they did against the Badgers. This is my Alma Mater, so I may be slightly biased here.
  19. Miami
College football is always better when the Canes are good. Has Mario Christobal turned around this program already? Tyler Van Dyke is playing at an elite level and the defense is running around with some confidence. They should come out with a win this weekend at Temple.
  20. Duke
The Blue Devils aren’t known for their football success. But this year feels a little different. Their ground game is elite which makes it easy for Riely Leonard to control the offense. The defense is doing their part, and it seems like they will be part of the ACC race come November. They should role through Uconn this weekend.
  21. UCLA
Another Basketball team? Yes, Chip Kelly has replaced a lot of key players, and they look better than many thought. Dante Moore has looked phenomenal since he won the QB job and will be interesting to see what he can do at Utah this weekend. It’s a tough place to play, especially for someone who is so young. This team has potential, but I don’t see a way for them to get a win this weekend, especially if Cam Rising is back.
  22. Colorado
This team has been in the media way too much. I like coach Prime and the Buffs, but I will save you all time and keep it short. Shedeur Sanders is the real deal, and they have the offensive firepower to matchup with the Ducks this weekend. No pressure on this team like last week against Colorado State. Unfortunately, Travis Hunter is out. But I hope to see a back-and-forth game tomorrow.
  23. Iowa
Iowa sored 40 points last week? We won’t be saying that again this year. McNamara makes this offense a little more dynamic, but it is still Hawkeye’s football. If they go down early, it’s almost impossible for them to come back. The defense will need to carry this team all year, and they will probably be out of these rankings after their match against the Nittany Lions.
  24. BYU
Don’t sleep on these Cougars! Big win going into Arkansas and playing a complete football game. They now have Kansas and I think they match up well against the Jayhawks. Slovis was a good addition, but they will need to find some ground game if they are looking to string together wins in the Big-12 this year.
  25. Missouri
Had to get these boys in the top 25. Experienced team but questionable coaching. Had to show love for Big #92
